Besides, with several BPM solution providers providing relevant solutions, looking to build a BPM solution from scratch while trying to focus on your core competencies would only give rise to further complications.

A significant number of businesses that look at building their own BPM solutions are ones that are in the technological sphere themselves, and this is essentially because they tend to believe that they are in the know-how of building effective solutions. The successful implementation of a BPM solution, in such scenarios, would depend not just on the existing technical capabilities of those involved, but also of their ability to adapt to the ever changing BPM sphere. On the other hand, in buying BPM solutions, businesses have the option to start small, and expand as and when they deem fit. Besides, in buying BPM software such businesses also have the ability to respond to the changing requirements of end-users without having to worry about ongoing changes that might be required.

So while building a BPM solution might be the way to go for some businesses, setting the ball rolling does call for a lot of deliberation. While lower costs in the form of building a BPM solution might be alluring, one should also bear in mind the turnaround time for deployment in such a case. My closing thoughts on this are that decisions taken on the spur of the moment or simply overestimating one's own capabilities can lead to failure of mammoth proportions.
