One can come up with a lot of ways on how a leader can be successful; however, I suggest it can be boiled down to 6 things. In order for a leader and their followers to be assured of success they must know exactly how to lead in the most efficient way to get where they are going. 6 essentials for the successful supervisor, manager, or leader 1. Know where you are going, what is to be accomplished, when, and why you are going 2. Know how to properly inform your people where they are going, what is to be accomplished, why it is to be accomplished, when it is to be accomplished, what role they play, and how it will benefit them 3. Know how to empower your people with the ability to meet or exceed their role of responsibilities of the task 4. Know how to develop and establish a system that assures consistent and accurate performance of your people's role, how to permanently fix any problems that arise, stay on track by measuring the results, and a system that guarantees continuous improvement 5. Know how to create an environment that motivates your people how to meet or exceed their role of responsibilities 6. Know how to help those who don't meet or exceed or have difficulty meeting or exceeding their role of responsibilities and how to deal fairly with those who won't or is not capable of meeting their responsibilities Think about it, when you have people:
You can and should succeed every time. Some would say, "Sure, if my people had all this, I could succeed every time". But in the real world, how many leaders know how to do this? My 38 years has shown me that few are able to consistently do it. But, I do suggest when a supervisor, manager, director, or leader learns how to do this; he or she will most likely become successful. How well they do this will determine how successful they will be. I enjoyed those 38 years in various leadership positions from local operations to corporate type settings. For many years I struggled with a proven way to get the best from people. When I began to follow this framework, these 6 things, and followed the principles behind them, I learned they do work. I entered into many tough environments as various Manager Positions and as Director of Operations using this framework. One of the benefits was to hear from a number of superiors, peers, and subordinates who said they enjoyed coming to work and felt they accomplished more than they ever had in their past. I can tell you these principles do work when you use them properly. This framework helps create the importantly needed motivational environment. In this environment people will be able to see and understand what the perfect world can look like and through real empowerment they will be able to come much closer to it than you might imagine. We can't motivate people to do this; we must create an environment that facilitates this motivation. Think about it, we have difficulty motivating ourselves let alone others. To be successful, one must know how to create this environment by opening up trust, ownership, ideas, willingness to take risk, a willingness to want to do the best work, feel comfortable they can meet high expectations, understanding what's in it for them, how the system works to accomplish their work, and what and how they will be held accountable. But equally important, is how the supervisor, manager, or leader can create this environment. You or your people deserve to be one of the best supervisors, not just a normal supervisor or manager. I have written a common sense book that teaches supervisors and managers how to do this. It is a step by step guide about how to create such an environment that yields success for the supervisor, their people, and their organization. The book "Supervision, 7 Essentials for the Successful Boss", breaks it down for you. Wouldn't you like to be the most successful supervisor, manager, director, or business owner? In our present day economy, every business should expect and be able to get the absolute best from their people, but don't expect to get the best from people with pressure, demands, or scare tactics. You may get a lot out of people this way, but trust me; you will never get the best from them. People give you the best when they want to give the best and know how to give their best.
