Do you know the amount of packaging that come out of a consumer electronic store or from products in supermarkets in UAE?
It is good to know that the trends are changing and everybody is switching to the three Rs principle. Reduce. Reuse. Recycle. Well being a firm believer of chaos theory, and the simple adage that summarizes the whole concept, the statement when a butterfly flaps it's wings in China there is a storm in New York, could be reapplied and stated, when a shopper throws a plastic bag here, there could be a climatic doom waiting to be unfurled somewhere in the planet.
Well people in the U.A.E are realizing it is time to change, led by hypermarkets in the region. Affordable environmentally friendly bags have cropped up everywhere in the country and further more as a morale boosting image, few have started appearing in shopping trolleys. The Government initiatives of saving precious resources and the climate, is being supported by businesses, and hypermarkets in the U.A.E have taken a lead in that. Bags of different sizes, of earthly hues and smart captions and logos are appearing in the horizons and people are more environmental conscious and the gradual change by no means overwhelming, is a hope, and sooner than later the clean habits will be picked up by many and will be enforced as a social necessity. It is also encouraging to see that recycling and going green is seen as suave, and the hordes of people that sway public opinion such as celebrities are following suit by being active in environmental issues and the trend hopefully will mirror across all the stratum of society.
So next time you walk into a hypermarket shopping for some greens, or even as something chic as perfumes, just make sure that you grab a reusable bag, fill it and take it back the next time you go back to the grocery store. Let's save the world one plastic bag at a time.
